A series of beautifully powerful films made by exciting young Black directors about African American artists from this time. For instance, Zawe Ashton directs a film profiling Lorraine O’ Grady an artist whose installations, performances and texts address issues black female subjectivity.  Cecile Emeke is profiling artist and author Faith Ringgold whose paintings and quilted narrative pieces show the racial, political and social tensions she experienced as an artist working in Harlem in the 60s and 70s and Andy Mundy-Castle directs a film profiling painter William T. Williams whose work spans five decade. Finally there will be a fourth film directed by esteemed director Kahlil Joseph (known for working with Beyoncé, Sampha, FKA Twigs and many more) who will be focussing on the works of renowned fine art photographer, Roy DeCarava, who was known for documenting lives of African Americans and jazz artists in Harlem. Collectively the films will elegantly portray the lives and works of these incredible artists.

Christian and Carmen lead an acting workshop for any wannabe young film star. This will teach the basics of acting in front of a camera, for beginners to the more experienced. Featuring Hollywood actor Sebastian Croft, from Game of Thrones.

Learn how to Stand Up Paddleboard on The Thames! SUP boarding is fun, easy to get the hang of and a popular watersport taking off all over the world. Active 360 have been organising river cleanups of our local waterways since 2011 and are the hosts of the Plastic Oceans Festival. Under 16’s must be accompanied by a guardian. Board, paddle & bouyancy aid provided. Bring drinking water, quick-dry clothing and shoes that can get wet, such as plastic sandals or old trainers. All paddlers must register with Active360 prior to this event at active360.co.uk

Event 1: Beginners Paddleboarding Lesson Kew to Barnes Film Festival / Paddle and Pick / Plastic Oceans Screening

When: Saturday 30th September, 1.30pm – 7pm

Where: Starts at Kew Bridge Arches, Strand-On-The-Green, London W4 3NG

Cost: £40

The highly experienced crew at Active360, based at the Brentford Arches, will lead this session from Kew to Barnes Film Festival. Beginners will receive around 1.5 hours instruction on the river. You will paddle with the tide to Barnes and join a plastic clean-up in The Thames in Barnes near Lonsdale Road. At 5pm, make the short walk with your group to the OSO in Barnes for the Q+A and screening of the documentary Plastic OceansEvent starts at 1.30, for a 2pm start on the river.

Event 2: Paddleboarding Kew to Barnes Film Festival for Paddleboarding veterans / Paddle and Pick / Plastic Oceans Screening

When: Saturday 30th September, 1.30pm – 7pm

Where: Starts at Kew Bridge Arches, Strand-On-The-Green, London W4 3NG

Cost: £15

Join this event from Brentford Arches in Kew to Barnes Film Festival. This ticket price does not include a lessons and is only for those who have paddled with Active360 in the past. (If you are a Beginner, please join the Beginners events instead.) You will paddle with the tide to Barnes and join a plastic clean-up in The Thames in Barnes near Lonsdale Road. At 5pm, make the short walk to the OSO in Barnes with your group for the Q+A and screening of the documentary Plastic OceansEvent starts at 1.30 for a 2pm start on the river.

At 5pm, walk into Barnes with your group for the Q+A and screening of the documentary Plastic OceansAt the end of the screening at 7pm, return to the river for the return journey to Kew on the incoming tide, arriving at Kew at around 8pm. Event starts at 1.30 for a 2pm start on the river.

Join this event from Brentford Arches in Kew to Barnes return. This ticket price does not include a lesson and is for those who have paddled with Active360 in the past. (If you are a beginner,  please sign on to the Beginners event instead.) You  will paddle with the tide to Barnes and join a plastic clean-up in The Thames in Barnes. At 5pm, walk into Barnes with your group for the Q+A and screening of the documentary Plastic OceansAt the end of the screening at 7pm, return to the river for the return journey to Kew on the incoming tide, arriving at Kew at around 8pm. Event starts at 1.30 for a 2pm start on the river.

Event 5: Beginners Paddlboarding mini-lesson / Paddle and Pick / Plastic Oceans screening

Cost: £11 adults / £9 students

A mini-taster session to learn how to Stand Up Paddleboard on The Thames!  The highly experienced crew at Active360 will provide 1 hour tuition at low tide at the Drill Dock area near Lonsdale Road. You will also be joining a plastic clean-up session in The Thames in Barnes. At 5pm, walk into Barnes with your group for the Q+A and screening of the documentary Plastic Oceans.

Event 6: Beginners Paddleboarding Lesson Barnes Film Festival to Kew at twilight for Beginners & Paddle and Pick & Plastic Oceans screening

Cost: £35

The highly experienced crew at Active360, based at the Brentford Arches, will lead this session from Barnes at Lonsdale Road to Kew, ending at twilight at the Brentford Arches. Beginners will receive instruction on the river. You will begin this event at 3pm where you will receive instruction at low tide and join the Paddle and Pick near Lonsdale Road in Barnes. You will then make the short walk to the OSO in Barnes for the screening of  Plastic Oceans  then walk to the river to paddle with the tide back to Kew at twilight.

Event 7: Paddleboarding  for Paddleboarding veterans Barnes Film Festival to Kew & Paddle and Pick & Plastic Oceans

This ticket price is for those who have paddled with Active360 in the past. (For beginners, please see ticket options that include a lesson).  You will begin this event at 3pm  near Lonsdale Road in Barnes where you will join a Paddle and Pick session. You will then make the short walk to the OSO in Barnes for the screening of  Plastic Oceans  then walk to the river to paddle with the tide back to Kew at twilight.

Liam Harris (Channel 4, Glassworks) winner of last year’s 19-25 category with his fantastic animation Perched, will teach students how to make mini animations with their smart phones. This workshop will also feature a sneak peak of his new animated film for Channel 4. For ages 16 and under.
