Competition

Barnes Film Festival 2017 is hosting a Youth Filmmaking Competition for UK residents aged 25 and under. There are 3 age categories: Age 12 and under; age 13-18 and age 19-25. The theme for age 13-18 year old and 19-25 is ‘Blue Dot’, and the Under 12’s are required to include a globe or map of the world in their film. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS HAS NOW ENDED and the final deadline for submissions HAS NOW ENDED

Prizes

Entrants who submit their film to the Youth Filmmaking Competition 2017 are in the running to win fantastic high-value prizes related to filmmaking.

Judges

Short-listed entries to the Youth Filmmaking Competition will be judged by leading film industry professionals, and will be screened during the Festival. Winners will be announced, and prizes awarded, during the Festival in a venue in Barnes, SW13, London.

Age Categories & Theme

Age 12 and under

    • We are asking you to make a short film of up to a maximum of 3 minutes in length in the genre of Documentary, Fiction or Animation.
    • The theme for the Barnes Film Festival 2017 is ‘Blue Dot’.
    • THE BLUE DOT THEME IN THE CATEGORY 12 AND UNDER REQUIRES INCLUSION OF A GLOBE OF THE EARTH OR A MAP OF THE WORLD.

  • We are asking you to make a short film of up to a maximum of 5 minutes in length in the genre of Documentary, Fiction or Animation.
  • The theme for the Barnes Film Festival 2017 is ‘Blue Dot’. This theme draws inspiration directly from a quote made in 1994 by astronomer and philosopher Carl Sagan imagining the view of planet Earth from afar as a ‘pale blue dot’.
