BFF 2020: Competition Deadlines & Check Out Our New Trailer

Remember, Barnes Film Festival 2020 is set for June 19th-25th this year (for full details, please follow the link). A departure from our previous September run.

Now we’re set to celebrate the start of summer with a series of talks, workshops, events, and competition results.

COMPETITION DEADLINES REMINDER

Okay, there’s still time to enter our range of competitions. These are:

  • Short film competitions: Any genre, with all skill levels welcome (UK and international entries welcome). Youth short film showcase: 18-year-olds and under for UK entrants only.
  • Youth short film showcase: 18-year-olds and under. We encourage all genres and levels of experience to enter for UK entrants only.

The regular deadline was for 1st February, but don’t worry. The late deadline is 1st March. So there’s still a month ahead for you to perfect your mini-masterpieces. The notification date is 1st April.

You can submit yur entries to Barnes Film Festival through our FilmFreeway account.

Need some creative inspiration? Our festival director, Sam Cullis, said just this week:

We have a team of experienced film selectors from animation, fiction and documentary backgrounds who have a tough job on their hands to mark each film on different criteria including: directing, production, writing, casting, editing, sound and camera.

Entries with the top scores will be shortlisted to be screened at the festival. At the festival judges will select the winner for each of the three genres for each age category and we have had some incredible prizes up for grabs.

Past winners have received film kit such as a 2.5K Blackmagic Camera, high spec Sigma lenses, Audio recording equipment from Senheisser and work experience at a variety of production houses around London. I want to stress that judges are not looking for the best lenses or special effects, but the ability to tell a story well.

For this reason, you could enter a film shot on the most basic equipment and still have a chance of winning the competition (in each category). Obviously, technical ability will be a major factor, but anyone can make a film in 2019, even on your iPhone. Get out there and do it!”

THE 2020 FESTIVAL TRAILER IS HERE

You can tell we’re getting in the cinematic mood whenever there’s a new trailer to show off.

For 2020, we’re boasting a graphic look and funky soundtrack to show we’re not holding it back this year. It’s our fifth festival and we’re keen to make this one the best of the lot.

A full schedule of screenings, talks, Q&As, and workshops is on the way shortly. And once tickets are available, we’ll let you know on our social accounts. As well as this blog!

Don’t forget, you can also volunteer to be a part of the event in June.

As a reminder, you can also contribute to this blog if you feel like writing about film. Get in touch and we’ll let you know the type of contributions we’re looking for.
